Here’a s quick size comparison between Micro 4/3s and DSLR. The photo below shows a Panasonic G3 and a Panasonic 12-35mm 2.8 (24-70 equivalent on full-frame) side-by-side with a Nikon D3 and a Nikkor AFS 24-70mm 2.8. Just imagine the weight, bulk and size advantage you can get…
Unscientifically, I can say that the Micro 4/3s system will get the job done about 80% of the times for most of my photographic adventures. It is not to replace totally my Nikon DSLR, as I still have this system complete with an arsenal of my favorite Nikkor lenses, but for most of the everyday needs, travel and street photography, I would most certainly pick up the Micro 4/3s camera. The size and weight advantage is heaven-sent, the quality of the photos are very comparable to the full-frame DSLR, although a few notches below in some areas, I would happily trade it off to the Micro 4/3s advantage.
I think the Micro 4/3s system is a complementary system to my Nikon DSLR system. It is not to replace, but instead to be a strong viable option for the times when I want to go light and easy! Cheers.
Photographer’s note: F/8, 1/250, ISO 100, Nikon D800E, Nikkor AFS 60mm 2.8, SB-800, SB-700, Pocketwizard Flex TT5
