Profile Lighting

Profile lighting was one of the lighting techniques demonstrated during the Leysamfoto Creative Portraits workshop. Profile lighting is one of my personal favorite lighting setup – very simple lighting actually but can be tricky. This is with one light source only using a Nikon SB-800 with a shoot-through umbrella triggered by Pocketwizard Flex. One of the important lessons learned here is lighting can be as simple as it can be when we don’t tend to over complicate the setup.

  • Christian - Tnx dave for sharing, I havent had this kind of lighting effects on my shoot through umbrella. I wish you could show us your diagram on this image. BTW pardon me with my ignorance wats the difference between profile lighting and rembrandt lightingReplyCancel

  • xdayv - Hi Christian, you’re welcome. Profile lighting because the subject is on a profile pose, though this one is an informal profile pose but the angle is still the same. Rembrandt lighting as far as i know is simulating the famous painter’s lighting on his paintings which is the 45 degree angle light source towards the subject. Cheers!ReplyCancel
