Macro lens for Travel Photography

When I’m travelling, I want to pack as light as possible. It’s probably one of the reasons why I chose the Micro 4/3 system, because the size and weight is ideal for travel photography, but without compromising image quality. Like some of us, I will always like to bring as much lenses as we can have but due to practical reasons, we always choose to be as light as possible.

That being said, I would love to cart along a macro lens on my next trip. But as far as my recollection goes, I never brought one. I could imagine the possibilities in bringing along a macro lens. I love to shoot details, close-ups… I just love it. Shooting weddings, I also love to shoot the rings, bouquet, etc… Now, my dilemma is that my only macro lens that I have is the Nikkor AFS 60mm 2.8, I don’t have one (yet?) for the Micro 4/3. Well, the Micro 4/3 macro lens currently available is the Panasonic Leica 45mm 2.8, wow a very good lens! (Photographer Reed George does very well on his Pana-Leica 45mm 2.8, check out his recent blog, The Stove Eye Lifters Rock the Barns at Rose Hill in Berryville, Virginia)

Here’s a shot taken by a Nikkor AFD 85mm 1.4, I would love to have shot these little things with a macro lens. I might have to cart along my Nikon if I want to bring a macro lens… the possibilites are endless?
