Featured Photo: The Boy with a Parol
“Parol” – a Filipino lantern made of bamboo sticks and papers. It is basically a star-shaped lantern as seen in this featured photo which symbolizes the star of Bethlehem that guided the holy family on Christmas day. This was taken early morning in Palo, Leyte as the people were busy preparing for the celebration of Christmas. One of these activities which has become an annual tradition was to decorate the streets of Palo with “parol” and Christmas lights. They are beautifully and symmetrically displayed to light up the streets at night. The boy’s long deep stare made me wonder what was he pondering at that very moment. I hope and pray while he was holding the “parol” close to him, the message of hope that the Star of Bethlehem has once proclaimed will somehow give this little boy a meaningful celebration of Christmas with his family.
The same goes to you, my wishes of hope and love this season to you and your family. Have a blessed Christmas everyone!
